A 69-year-old woman has been pronounced dead after a fire occurred in her apartment unit within The Glen condominium complex on Loring Avenue in Swampscott.
Residents of The Glen were seen outside of their apartment complex Thursday morning, as fire trucks and ambulances swarmed the building. The fire started around 7 a.m., and smoke spilled out of the top floor of the four-story building.
The Swampscott Fire and Police Departments did not have a comment at this time.
“The Swampscott Fire Department located the woman, 69, within her apartment unit and she was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced deceased,” Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker said in a statement. “Pending family notifications, her identity will not be released today.”
The incident is under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to Tucker’s office, the Swampscott Police Department detective unit, the Office of State Fire Marshal Jon Davine, the Swampscott Fire Department, and the Massachusetts Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The Glen faced a fire in 2024, when a tenant was charged with arson in the aftermath.
This is an ongoing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
