This is a contribution from a Swampscott High School student, as part of the Swampscott Tides Big Blue Student News selection.
Story by Joseph Blood.
On July 8, Swampscott’s first Summer By The Sea Concert was held on the Town Hall Lawn. The opening performance featured Pick 6, who entertained the crowd with a mix of pop, classic rock, and country music.
The Summer By The Sea Concert Series will continue every Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. on the Town Hall Lawn through August 19. Each week will feature a different local or regional band, along with a rotating selection of food and beer vendors.
The goal of the concert series is to support local musicians while bringing the Swampscott community together through live music.
“Personally, I was a huge fan of the band tonight. They performed extremely well, in my opinion,” said Swampscott High School student Brayden McCarthy.
The lawn was packed with dozens of people sitting in lawn chairs, while many others walked around, talked with neighbors, and met new people throughout the evening.
“I really enjoyed talking with the people there. I barely knew anyone, yet I was able to talk to some of the people I met as if I already knew them,” McCarthy said.
The event was made possible through the support of its sponsors: SalemFive, the Mass Cultural Council, Weaver Orthodontics, Big Blue Bargains, and FirstLight.
The next concert will take place on July 15 and will feature Familiar Strangers, performing bluegrass along with a variety of popular covers.
Bands for the rest of the season include Squeezebox Stompers, the B-Side Hustle, Christine Lucas Band, MooseJuice and Jesse Liam Band.
