The Select Board recognized Aiden Tat for his accomplishment in becoming an Eagle Scout.
Eagle Scout is the highest rank in Scouting, with only about 4% of Scouts earning the distinction. Over seven years with the Swampscott troop, Tat earned the 21 merit badges required to achieve the Eagle Scout rank.
“Our community, our parents and our kids are just amazing at the hard work and accomplishments that they do,” Select Board Member Mary Ellen Fletcher said. “The Eagle Scout award is a distinction that will follow Aiden Tat throughout his life and will be a beacon to others of the leadership and commitment he has shown.”
Tat’s name will be added to the Eagle Scout plaque in Town Hall, located just to the left of the entrance.
To earn the Eagle Scout rank, candidates must complete a service project. Tat chose to rebuild the nativity stable at St. John’s Church after it was destroyed in a storm.
“My project was working with them to create a new one that would be better suited for their needs,” Tat said.
This fall, Tat will attend the Colorado School of Mines, where he plans to study mechanical engineering.
