Of the wide range of summer events and activities offered in Swampscott, one stands alone as the most popular among residents.

Some things are synonymous with the summer: ice cream, the beach and fireworks to name a few.

With more than twice as many responses as any other event, Swampscott Tides readers voted the annual July 3 fireworks display as their favorite event on the summer calendar. A quarter of all respondents picked the event as the highlight of their Swampscott summer.

“I think it’s a staple for Swampscott,” Recreation Director Charlotte Daher de Garcia said of the fireworks show. “There’s nothing better than looking out on the water and seeing fireworks.”

Daher de Garcia said it’s personally her favorite event each year as well. She enjoys working it, and she enjoys watching it.

“It takes a full year of fundraising,” said Daher de Garcia. “Behind the scenes, people might not realize how much work goes into it.

Overall, 15 different events were selected as the No. 1 favorite for residents, showing there truly is something for everyone.

The Swampscott Farmers’ Market, held Sundays between June and October, was the second most popular answer, tallying 12.6% of responses.

Coming in third was a tie between the Summer Concert Series and Porchfest, each the choice of 11.7% of respondents.

There are three remaining dates on the Summer Concert Series schedule, with seven shows already in the books. MooseJuice will take over the Town Hall lawn on Tuesday, August 12, and the Jesse Liam Band will follow on Tuesday, August 19. B-Side Hustle was rescheduled for Thursday, August 27, due to the rain.

She said people have been enjoying the rotating food trucks and vendors that line the outskirts of the lawn during each show.

“The concert series just keeps getting better,” said Daher de Garcia.

Porchfest is right around the corner, scheduled for Saturday, August 29. The event features live music being played all across town, with bands setting up shop on front porches.

Rounding out the Top 5 most popular responses was Strawberry Fest, held at the end of June and featuring music, a parade and of course, strawberry shortcakes.
