Monday afternoons at the Swampscott Senior Center are often filled with games of bridge and gin rummy. This week, the schedule got a bit abraca-jumbled.
Instead of numbers and cards, about two dozen residents gathered for a magical shuffle Monday instead, as Peter Jackson took the stage with his trusty bunny side-kick, Houdini. In an event sponsored by the Cultural Council, Jackson took stage at the senior center to share his music and fill the crowd with both laughter and awe.
Jackson wasted no time pulling out all the tricks, and a few hankies too. With a flick of the wrist and a wink to the crowd, he turned a crumpled handkerchief into a waving flag.
But the magic didn’t stop there. Cards were flying, balloons were blown and minds were read. Many of the senior center guests also were able to take part in the magic.
“I’m here to have fun,” Jackson said.
