Residents are invited to a community discussion on traffic concerns at Stetson and Franklin Avenues, scheduled for Wednesday, August 13.

The meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Swampscott Senior Center and will include interim Town Administrator and Director of the Department of Public Works Gino Cresta, members of the Swampscott Police Department, and other town officials.

“We encourage everyone to attend and participate in the conversation,” Cresta wrote in his release on the town website. “Your input is valuable in shaping our neighborhood’s future.”

Concerns about speeding in the neighborhood have been ongoing for some time. Although the roads serve a residential area, they also function as connectors to major thoroughfares like Essex Street and Paradise Road.

Residents have debated potential solutions such as speed bumps, narrower lanes, and increased traffic citations. In 2017, Peter Kane, who previously served as the director of community development, suggested a speed limit reduction from 30 mph to 25 mph on Stetson Avenue and Puritan Road.

In 2023, Police Capt. Joseph Kable told the Select Board that problematic streets could be redesigned and noted that the speed “pillows” previously installed on Stetson Avenue have proven effective.

The agenda for the discussion is as follows:

  • Review current traffic challenges
  • Explore potential solutions
  • Share thoughts and concerns
