About 300 people gathered on the Town Hall Lawn Saturday for Swamptoberfest, enjoying activities, food, drinks and live music.
Children enjoyed face painting, mini golf, shooting hoops in an inflatable basket, and getting their hair bedazzled.
The Swampscott Volleyball team ran a 50/50 raffle, while adults sampled Harpoon Brewery beers and Viva Seltzers. Food vendors included The Carvery with ice cream and acai bowls, Joe’s on a Roll with lobster rolls, Isabella’s Ice Cream offering sweet treats and popcorn, Whoo(pie) Wagon featuring flavors like fair-fetti, pumpkin, and salted caramel, and Beach Dogs serving hot dogs throughout the evening.
Turtle on a String kicked off the evening with a set of popular songs, followed by headliners Paul Foley and Friends. Paul Foley and Friends took the stage for the main part of the night.
The second annual stein-holding competition also drew a crowd, as men and women vied for a celebratory stein. Participants had to hold out water-filled mugs with straight arms, with no leaning allowed.
Patrick Callaci won the men’s division with a time of 3 minutes and 24 seconds, while Samantha McDonald took the women’s title at 2 minutes and 44 seconds.
“Swamptoberfest is just an awesome event for friends to gather,” said Charlotte Daher de Garcia, director of the Recreation Department. “We’re just so happy so many people came out despite the rain date, and we’re excited for this to continue for many years to come.”
