Students’ Artwork Takes Center Stage

After a semester of growth, Swampscott High School students showcased their artwork for the community on Wednesday, December 10.

Tables and walls were full of ceramics, photography and 3-D art, turning the school’s lobby into a colorful gallery. Alongside the artwork, the school’s concert band, jazz band, and chorus students displayed their hard work with a holiday performance in the auditorium, creating a full evening of the arts.

As friends and families explored the art, students sold a plethora of holiday treats and snacks.

Brennan Natoli’s advanced manufacturing design class students had work on display. A variety of items made out of wood were available for purchase, including cutting boards, toy cars and candy dispensers.

“It’s really great to see what they can produce,” said Natoli. “We want to showcase their work as much as we can.”

Devon Brown – who teaches ceramics, studio art and design and photography – said it was amazing to see her students’ work get highlighted.

“They’ve been working so hard,” said Brown. “This is a moment to bring it all together and celebrate.”

Brown said she felt a sense of accomplishment seeing her students’ finished work and she hopes that the students feel the same way.

“They surprise me all the time,” said Brown. “They push boundaries.”

Brown said she has enjoyed getting to know her group of students and is sad to part ways with some after the semester. She is, however, excited to keep working with the students that will be taking her classes again.

“These kids are awesome,” she said. “Getting to know them and watching their interests and art develop has been great.”
