The Swampscott Chess Club is launching following a well-received tournament held earlier this month at the Swampscott Public Library.

“After a successful chess tournament last Saturday at the Swampscott Public Library, a group of local players are launching a new club for players in the Swampscott area,” said Barry Cushner, who is organizing the group.

Cushner is the former director of Square One Chess Cluband a 15-time club champion. He has run clubs in Swampscott, Lynn, Saugus, and Revere, and recently offered free chess instruction for intermediate and advanced players at the Senior Center.

The new group will meet on Wednesdays from 7 to 10 p.m. at Eagle Rock Apartments at Swampscott, located at 100 Vantage Terrace.

“The club welcomes players of all ages and levels,” Cushner said. “The Swampscott Chess Club will offer instruction to novice players.”

Players are asked to park in spaces across from the clubhouse and pool. Do not park in premium spots, as violators may be towed.
