The Swampscott Recreation Department is hosting an End of Summer Extravaganza for children before they return to school on Wednesday.
The two-day festivities blend active play, teamwork and creativity. Children are participating in arts and crafts, outdoor games and fun school-supply activities. The Swampscott Recreation Department called it a “welcoming, upbeat transition into the new school year.”
“We’re trying to end the summer in a good way,” SNL Supervisor Johnny Tierno said. “Everyone’s heading back to school. It’s one last good memory of the summer.”
The programming is being offered in conjunction with SNL Youth Academy, which offers a variety of sports leagues and clinics throughout Massachusetts for children of all ages and skill levels.
On Monday morning, children built with Legos, played games and participated in team-building activities.
“It meant the world to me when I was a kid. Even just to give abc a little bit means a lot to me,” Tierno said.
The programming will be offered again Tuesday for students entering kindergarten through sixth grade. It runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and costs $125 for residents and $140 for non-residents. Registration is available through the Swampscott Recreation Department website.
