The Archer Trail walking path is complete, and almost all of the signage is up to direct nature seekers on their journeys.
The Open Space and Recreation Plan Committee shared at its meeting last week that nearly all of the signage is in place and the trail’s paths and bridges are ready for visitors. A grand opening ceremony is being planned.
The roughly three-quarter-mile trail has entrances at Park Street, Connelly Avenue, Vaughan Place and Archer Street.

The trail winds through a quiet natural area, providing visitors with a respite from nearby traffic. Trail walkers can hear birds chirping as they are surrounded by nature. The trail provides a clean, well-maintained path through a wooded area, making it suitable for a leisurely walk, birdwatching or simply enjoying the outdoors.
At a June 2022 Special Town Meeting, voters approved the purchase of several properties, including the Archer Street parcel and the former Hawthorne-by-the-Sea restaurant site. The Archer Street land had previously been slated for a large housing redevelopment project.
In 2024, the town submitted a grant application for trail construction. That same year, Town Meeting allocated $225,000 for construction and accepted a $112,500 state grant.
