Members of Daisy Troop 63104 earned their “Fun With Movement” badge at Tread Tabata, where they learned the importance of body positivity as well as the confidence and joy that exercise can bring.
One of the Daisy Troop members’ mothers, Kimberly Schneider, is an instructor at Tread Tabata. Schneider and gym owner Kathy Glabicky invited the troop to the studio for the workout. Eleven troop members received their “Fun With Movement” badge following the experience.
“We used it as a workout to move their bodies,” said Katie Arrington, the media liaison for the Ocean Bay Girl Scouts. “And we love to get them out into the community and do field trips…It was great. It was a really fun time.”
The girls began with a warm-up that included jumping jacks and burpees. Schneider also discussed the importance of proper form and safety while exercising.
They then moved on to partner exercises, in which the girls bent to the side and tossed a ball back and forth with a partner, repeating the cycle once the ball was caught.
“We wrapped up by doing a big dance party and a freeze dance,” Arrington said.

Each girl received a take-home bag featuring a daisy lifting weights. Inside the bag was a certificate for the girls’ parents to attend a Tread Tabata class, which Arrington said many are “excited to try.”
The “Fun With Movement” badge features a panda with a hula hoop, according to the Girl Scout Shop. The badge encourages girls to “explore all the ways your body can move – big and small – and discover how movement brings joy, creativity and confidence.”
“We love to promote body positivity. We want the girls to learn about being strong physically but also we talked about how exercise and moving your body can help with your mental health,” Arrington said. “It was a great thing to also do right before a snow storm. It was great to just bring our community together. Not only were we able to move our bodies and have some fun but we really were pairing with a business in town.”
