Swampscott resident Wayne Godfrey can often be found drinking his morning coffee inside of Lincoln’s Landing, smiling and chatting. Well before he announced he was running for the Swampscott Select Board, Godfrey liked to spend his time away from his profession as a retailer, meeting and getting in order to get to know new people around town.

Godfrey hosted his first “Coffee with the Candidate” on Tuesday morning at Lincoln’s Landing, where he invited residents to sit down with him and share their concerns with the municipality.

Godfrey said solving questions and concerns is what’s driving him to run for the Select Board.

“The Select Board is responsible for 15,000 souls in Swampscott,” Godfrey said. “My ego matters little with the big problems we have.”

Godfrey believes he can bring a set of fresh eyes to the board, and he said the support he is receiving tells him the community is interested in a new perspective.

One key to success for the Select Board, Godfrey said, is having a working relationship with state and federal partners, “beyond just having each other’s phone numbers.”

“I’m excited, humbled and looking to win,” said Godfrey.

Godfrey will be hosting “Coffee with the Candidate” weekly on Tuesdays or Fridays throughout April.

Swampscott’s local election will be held Tuesday, April 28. Residents will elect candidates to a variety of positions, from the Select Board and School Committee to Town Moderator and Town Meeting Members.
