Coming over from the town of Danvers’ building department, Shannon O’Leary took over as the executive assistant to the town administrator and Select Board’s office last month.
O’Leary said she has been getting used to her new routine but is enjoying the town and its “very welcoming” community.
“I have a strong background in municipal operations, with experience in permitting and board administration,” said O’Leary.
O’Leary served as the administrative assistant in Danvers for almost five years, during which she was honored as employee of the year in 2025. Prior to that, she was an executive administrative assistant at C.P. Berry Homes from 2004 to 2001.
One of O’Leary’s many responsibilities is preparing information packets for Select Board meetings and keeping track of the meeting minutes.
“I help keep our office running smoothly and ensure our leadership team has the support they need,” said O’Leary. “I manage scheduling, coordinate meetings, assist with board and committee work and help maintain clear communication across departments.”
So far, she has been loving both her new role and Swampscott.
“It’s something different than my last position,” said O’Leary. “I love learning and seeing more of the leadership roles.”
O’Leary said she values playing a role in work that has a direct, positive impact on the community.
“I enjoy identifying opportunities to streamline systems and make them more efficient for both staff and residents,” said O’Leary. “I also play a key role in organizing projects, improving internal processes and ensuring information gets where it needs to go.”
