Spooktacular Start: Swampscott Elementary Hosts Trunk or Treat Bash

The Swampscott Elementary School Parent Teachers Organization (PTO) brewed up a fang-tastic time for local goblins and ghouls with its annual trunk or treat event.

“We’re trying to make it a community event,” said Laurie Strazzullo, the co-vice president of events. “Tried to beef up the trunk or treat from years past.”

Trunk or treat previously haunted the high school. This year marked the first time the spooky spectacle took place at the new elementary school.

About two dozen boo-tifully decorated cars lined up, with volunteers donning costumes and handing out candy. The goodies and treats were all donated, Strazzullo said.

The trick or treaters received three tickets to go through the trunk multiple times and pick out candy.

There was also a fall festival around the playground and field area at the elementary school. Attendees were able to enjoy face painting, axe throwing, pumpkin bowling, and food.

Swampscott still has a cauldron full of upcoming events to keep the spooky spirit alive:

  • October 19: the last day to register a house for the Halloween decorating contest
  • October 20 to 31: voting on Halloween house decorations
  • October 26: Halloween parade at the farmers market at noon
  • October 27: Halloween cookie decorating at Mexicali at 6:30 p.m.
  • October 30: Trick or treating at Town Hall 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • October 31: Halloween parade at the Swampscott Elementary School at 8:30 a.m.
