Swampscott to Host High-Dose Flu Clinic for Seniors Sept. 25

The Swampscott Health Department will hold a high-dose flu clinic for residents aged 65 and older on Thursday, September 25, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Senior Center.

“As we head into the fall, which is also the start of the respiratory virus season, the Swampscott Health Department would like to encourage residents to get a flu shot to protect themselves, their family, their friends, and our community,” said Neia Illingworth, town’s public health nurse.

Health officials recommend that all eligible individuals get vaccinated against the flu. While many forecasts predict a moderately severe flu season this year, the virus remains a contagious infection that targets the respiratory system. In the United States, flu season usually takes place in October through March, with peak periods in December and February.

Vaccine manufacturers have informed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that up to 154 million flu vaccine doses will be available nationwide this season.

Most insurances cover the cost of the flu vaccine.

To register for Swampscott’s flu clinic for those 65 and older, residents can reserve an appointment at home.color.com/vaccine/register/swampscott?site=swampscott-high-dose-ages-65-flu-clinic-at-sr-7117

Residents needing assistance with registration can call the Senior Center during regular hours at 781-596-8866.

If residents cannot attend the clinic, they are encouraged to check with their primary care provider or local pharmacies for flu shot availability.

Other regional health departments will also host flu clinics this fall. Information for those can be found at northshorepublichealth.com/post/2025-regional-flu-vaccination-clinics.

The Swampscott Health Department is also planning a regular flu clinic for adults 18 and older in October. More information will be provided at a later date.

In addition to vaccination, experts recommend regular handwashing, avoiding large crowds, and covering coughs and sneezes to help reduce the risk of flu transmission.
