With the sun blazing overhead on one of the last weekends of summer, nothing hits the spot quite like a cold glass of lemonade. That timeless, tart-and-sweet refreshment is exactly what Ty Murin set out to offer Saturday, as passersby in Swampscott sought the perfect thirst-quencher.

Ty spent the day selling lemonade at his stand on Fisherman’s Beach, donating part of the proceeds to the MSPCA, while taking part in a larger lemonade marathon across the North Shore.

Organized by Boston’s Wicked North Shore, the second annual lemonade stand marathon took place Saturday, August 23. Ty’s was the only stand officially registered in Swampscott, but nearly 60 other lemonade stands popped up across Salem, Lynnfield, Wakefield, Saugus, Peabody, Beverly, Haverhill, Lynn, Revere, Danvers, Ipswich, Middleton, North Andover, Amesbury, Marblehead, Topsfield and even Pelham, New Hampshire.

“We saw it last year and said we wanted to join if it happens again,” said Ty’s father, Greg Murin.

It’s Ty’s first time running a lemonade stand, and he came up with his own recipe: part store-bought mix, part homemade twist.

To combine his love of baseball with his love of lemonade, Ty named his stand “Ty’s Grand Slam Lemonade.” A cheerful lemon with a baseball bat and cap is featured hitting a ball out of the park. He also added to his stand a gumball machine filled with white gumballs printed to look like baseballs.

The stand, and the overall marathon, will remain open until about 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
