Mall Access Road will be closed due to construction starting Tuesday, June 23, according to the Swampscott Police Department.
The road, which connects Paradise Road to Essex Street is expected to remain closed until Thursday, June 25. All businesses will remain open.
“People wishing to visit businesses in the plaza will not be able to enter from Essex Street and must use the Paradise Road entrance,” the Swampscott Police reported.
The Swampscott Police Department said it will announce the road’s reopening on Facebook once construction is complete.
Vinnin Square continues to undergo significant redevelopment. Fast and Beauty has closed and been replaced by Fit Ritual, a fitness center. The former Bertucci’s space is now home to Sam Walker’s American Tavern.
In addition to filling vacant storefronts, Centercorp is adding three outparcel buildings.
“We are working with First Watch. That’s going to be an amazing addition. It’ll be a real breakfast place,” Sarah Klaman, an associate with Centercorp Retail Properties, previously said, adding that another one of the parcels will be a “Mediterranean concept with bowls.”
The next phase of the project includes a 160-unit apartment building behind the Stop & Shop grocery store.
The redevelopment project is not expected to be completed until late 2027.
The Vinnin Square construction project has impacted businesses, with Flip the Bird announcing last week that it was closing up shop.
The restaurant cited rising food costs, higher operating expenses and increasing rent as factors in the decision. Flip the Bird also pointed to ongoing construction in the area, which it said has made access difficult for customers.
“As our lease in Swampscott comes to an end, we have made the decision not to renew and to close this Flip the Bird location,” the post reads. “By focusing our resources and strengthening our core business, we believe this decision will ultimately make Flip the Bird stronger and position us for long-term success in an increasingly challenging environment for independent businesses.”
