What to do with Old Recycling Bins

The arrival of new 96-gallon recycling bins to Swampscott homes has left many residents with the same question – “What to do with my old bin?”

Department of Public Works Director Gino Cresta said Monday that this is the question he has received most since the barrels were introduced last week.

Residents looking to dispose of their old recycling barrels have multiple options.

Next week, starting Monday, August 17, residents can leave their old barrels curbsides to be collected.

On Saturday, August 29, residents can bring their old trash barrels to the DPW building located at 100 Paradise Road. This barrel donation day will be limited to Swampscott residents.

“The option will be re-use, dispose of through us, or figure out some other way,” Town Administrator Nick Connors said in July. “The easiest way to do it obviously is curbside for most folks, but we want to give the opportunity if they miss that for whatever reason [or] want to continue to use it.”
