A monthly, student-run event known as X-Mic has become a valued tradition at Swampscott High School, offering students a unique opportunity to showcase their talents and build community.
Held once a month, the optional event replaces students’ X-Block, or open period. On these Fridays, the auditorium fills with students eager to watch their peers perform. X-Mic functions similarly to a talent show, featuring a wide range of acts, from musical performances and karaoke to comedic and unconventional routines.
“I love X-Mic,” said Noah Wierl.

X-Mic is entirely organized and operated by students, who take on roles such as managing sound, running the light board and directing the show. It is overseen by Media Arts Instructor Joe Douilette.
“It’s such a good experience and good bonding experience,” said Lila Schwartz.

Participation is open to all students, who can sign up through an online platform to perform or join the production crew. Roles include sound, lighting, stage crew and acting, allowing students with a variety of interests to get involved.
“I like how X-Mic lets people with all different talents showcase them to the school,” said Ella Douillette.
