After starting off its season with a rivalry win over Marblehead High School, the Swampscott High School boys lacrosse team stayed hot despite frigid temperatures on Thursday, defeating Lynnfield High School 16-10.
The Big Blue scored five of the game’s six goals to jump out to a 5-1 lead in the first quarter, and the team rode that hot start to a commanding victory.
Lynnfield crept within two goals in the third quarter, netting back to back goals to make the score 9-7. Swampscott responded by scoring six consecutive goals to seal the victory. The Big Blue improve to 2-0 on the young season with the win.
Swampscott Head Coach Geoff Beckett gave credit for the team’s offensive outburst to new assistant coach Randy Fraser, who recently coached at Gordon College in Wenham.
“He’s directing the offense all over the place,” said Beckett. “It’s nice to have a townie on staff that knows a lot about the offense.”
On the field, Beckett said the Big Blue did a good job of taking care of the ball, not giving it away and always looking for open teammates to pass to.

After each goal is scored, a faceoff determines which team will possess the ball next. Winning those faceoffs has been a key to the Big Blue’s early season success.
“Our faceoffs are killing it,” said Beckett. “Then our attackers are finding open spots, getting in there and putting it in the back of the net.”
After a successful 2025 season where the Big Blue won a playoff game, Beckett has his eyes set on a Northeast Conference Championship.
“I’m still a NEC guy,” said Beckett. “That’s all I care about. I want to crush the NEC.”
One thing that can help Swampscott reach new heights is some new talent, like sophomore Will Rowe, who hadn’t played since he was in middle school.
“It’s nice to have a couple new guys,” said Beckett. “Will plays all over the place and he’s doing a great job.”
Next up for the Big Blue is NEC foe Winthrop High School. The Big Blue will play host to the Vikings on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at Blocksidge Field.
“Our next goal is to take care of them,” said Beckett. “They are basically a cross town rival. I know they have a lot of weapons, so we’re going to make sure we have everything in order for those guys.”
