Over 50 Swampscott homes took the chance to get some spring cleaning done, as they participated in the annual town-wide yard sale on Saturday.

Temperatures touched 70 degrees Fahrenheit as residents flocked to the Town Hall Lawn to take an early look at what was available for purchase. Over 25 vendors set up shop there, spreading out their items on the sun-soaked lawn. Around town, 30 more homes used their front yards as a storefront for the day.

Like pirates hunting after treasure, residents followed a map distributed to help locate the homes that were selling goods.

At Town Hall, items for sale included the usual – books, clothes, small furniture and paintings – and some less common items like a bocce set, model ships, a shiny chandelier and boxing gloves.

Along with people selling unused belongings, some sold handmade items like jewelry, pillows and wall decor.

The commotion on the Town Hall Lawn garnered attention from people who were just out walking to catch some sun and enjoy the warm weather.

Swampscott Recreation Department Program Coordinator Christina O’Connor said the event aligns with the department’s effort to utilize the lawn often to create a sense of community in town.

“I think it’s a great meeting place for community events,” said O’Connor. “People know where Town Hall is and know that there are a lot of fun happenings here. It’s important to keep up the tradition of hosting fun events here.”

The town yard sale has been a springtime hit in recent years.

“It’s almost like a mini farmer’s market vibe,” said O’Connor. “People are here together. It’s great for people to have a lot of vendors to look at.”

Participating sellers started setting up their items around 7 a.m. before opening for business an hour later.

“There’s a lot of cool stuff here,” said O’Connor. “I already bought something myself!”
