Charlotte Daher de Garcia has been appointed as Swampscott’s new recreation director.

“She’s going to bring some fresh energy,” interim Town Administrator Gino Cresta said. “She has lots of ideas.”

Daher de Garcia will start as the recreation director on August 7, following Danielle Strauss’ retirement last week. Cresta said there were about 20 applicants, and he interviewed four of them.

“All four of those candidates, I would have been comfortable hiring,” Cresta said. “Charlotte, I think she stood out a little bit more. She’s a little bit of a different energy.”

Daher de Garcia said she is looking forward to stepping into the role.

“I am honored to step into this role and continue the incredible work Danielle has done for our town,” Daher de Garcia said. “Swampscott is a close-knit, coastal community with deep traditions and a strong sense of pride. I’m excited to help steer the next chapter, bringing new energy, creative programming, and expanded communication efforts to keep our community moving forward, together.”

She brings to the role experience as vice president at CGPR, a consumer active lifestyle public relations firm based in Marblehead. According to her LinkedIn profile, Daher de Garcia worked with CGPR intermittently beginning in 2015. According to the CGPR website, her clients have included Kelty (camping gear), IdeaPaint (dry-erase paint), Yaymaker (event planning), LifeStraw (water filtration), and Goodyear (tires).

Her previous roles include director of marketing at Sugar Plum Parties, account manager at fama PR, and senior marketing associate at Communispace Corporation.

In 2014, she launched Hola Mama Bowtique, an online boutique. The shop sold headbands and “clippies” for babies and their mothers. Her products were available on Etsy and in retailers such as Crew Cuts and Pottery Barn Kids.

She graduated from Suffolk University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in Public Relations. Her LinkedIn profile notes that she speaks English, Arabic, and Spanish.

In Swampscott, she previously served as co-president of the Hadley School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). She supported the re-election campaigns of Select Board Members Mary Ellen Fletcher and Katie Phelan by posting on social media, posing with signs, and writing a letter to the editor for the Lynn Item. She has also recently supported Big Blue youth football and cheerleading fundraisers. Daher de Garcia is also an active Town Meeting Member and a member of the Swampscott Yacht Club.

“Charlotte is a resident. She didn’t have anything bad to say about the department. She just thinks she can – and I believe so – take it to another level,” Cresta said.
