Members of Daisy Troop 63104 earned their first aid badge on Sunday, after visiting with the Swampscott Fire Department

“Firefighters Britney Coppinger and Ben Rossman talked to the girls about stop, drop and roll,” said Katie Arrington, the media liaison for the Ocean Bay Girl Scouts. “They also talked about calling 911 and finding a trusted adult.”

The “Fun With Movement” badge features a pig calling out “SOS” on a phone, according to the Girl Scout Shop. The badge encourages girls to “find out how to get help in an emergency and treat minor injuries so you can be prepared if the unexpected happens.”

The group talked with EMTs from the Beauport Ambulance Service, who started providing services in Swampscott last summer. They toured an ambulance, and the girls discussed how shocking an emergency can be, but they also learned how to stay calm during one.

The troop had recently taken a field trip to Tread Tabata, where they learned the importance of body positivity as well as the confidence and joy that exercise can bring.

“The girls really enjoyed our second field trip to the fire station,” Arrington said. “We ended our visit with some love from fire dog Ryan. We love our community helpers.”
