It was a “Hard Day’s Night” – in the best way possible – on Wednesday, as Studio Two made Swampscott residents “Twist and Shout” on the Town Hall Lawn.
The Fab Four tribute band kicked off the town’s Sea Concert Series with a “Revolution”-ary set that transported fans “Across the Universe,” or at least back to 1964. With a little help from their friends, and plenty of lawn chairs and picnic blankets, over 200 people managed to “Come Together.”
Hailed as New England’s top Beatles tribute band by the British Beer Company, Studio Two dressed to match the iconic mop-tops and played hits from the pre-Sgt. Pepper era.
“I’ve known these guys for a million years,” said Erik Taros, Swampscott resident and creative director. “As somebody who lived through the entire 1960s except for the first 25 days, I know what I’m talking about. You will not hear a better Beatles tribute band.”
The free concert transformed the lawn into a real-life “Octopus’s Garden,” complete with beach chairs, coolers, kids playing tag, and tail-wagging dogs.
Granite Coast Brewery poured drinks, while TJ’s Taste Truck and Uncle Joey’s Cannoli dished out food and sweet treats.
Recreation Director Danielle Strauss introduced the band at what would be her final event with the department before retiring Friday.
“I am really proud of this concert series, our movie nights and all of our events,” Strauss said. “It’s been my pleasure to do all of these things, so thank you.”
The summer concert series will continue throughout July and August at the Town Hall Lawn from 6 to 8 p.m. This year’s lineup is:
