It’ll Be Pawsome: Swampscott Celebrates Fall with Doggy Dip Event

The Swampscott Recreation Department is unleashing a tail-wagging good time with its first-ever Doggy Dip at Eisman’s Beach this Sunday.

“Bring your pup (and their favorite human) for a splash-filled day,” the department posted on Facebook.

The event is timed to celebrate the paws-itively exciting return of dogs to the beach, as the fall season marks the end of peak nesting time for protected shorebirds in Massachusetts. In Swampscott, pups are permitted to romp, roll, and run free on public beaches from October 1 through May 20, with a few leash laws still in place.

To keep tails wagging safely, dogs must be accompanied by their humans at all times. While they must be leashed to and from the high water mark, they’re allowed to be off-leash between the high water mark and the water’s edge, as long as they’re under direct “paw-rental” supervision.

At the Doggy Dip event, there will be treats, tail wags and plenty of belly rubs to go around. Local vendors will be on-site to sell goodies that will definitely have your pup begging for more.

All participating dogs must be well-socialized, current on vaccinations, and wearing a collar with proper ID.

Owners, who are over the age of 18, have to accompany their dogs. There is a two-dog-per-human limit.

Small dogs will take the beach from 4 to 5 p.m., followed by the big dogs from 5 to 6 p.m.

Admission is $5 per dog, with all proceeds going to the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA), so every wagging tail is helping a good cause.
