The 2025-26 winter sports season was another successful one for the Swampscott High School athletic programs, with players and coaches receiving league and statewide recognition.

Athletic Director Kelly Wolff recapped the season’s achievements at Thursday’s School Committee meeting, noting accomplishments in a variety of sports, from track and field to swimming, basketball and hockey.

“We had a phenomenal winter season as far as the accolades our student athletes received this winter,” said Wolff. “We had so many kids that excelled in their sports.”

Starting in track and field, Annabelle Averett finished sixth in the state in the girls mile run in Division 4. Doyle Delano and Benjamin White finished in fourth and fifth respectively in the shot put event.

In the swimming pool, Claire Slomski was the Northeast Conference Swimmer of the Year. Slomski was also named All-Conference along with Aubrey Heath and Charlie McLaughlin. Thomas Farren was a League All-Star.

Liam O’Brien finished his decorated wrestling career as the all-time wins leader in the Marblehead/Swampscott program with 188. O’Brien was a Division 2 sectional champion and finished in third in the state in his weight class. He was named to the All-Conference team.

On the basketball court, Anna Kanders made all-conference while Cecelia Tripp and Samantha Ward were league all-stars for the Big Blue girls.

For the boys, Teddy O’Neill was named All-Conference. Connor Chiarello and Chase Groothius were League All-Stars.

“Our teams all did absolutely wonderfully for the winter,” said Wolff. “It was a good problem to have, but I will say we were very busy for the winter.”
