It was the first full week of the new year in Swampscott, bringing about an inch of snow and a return to work for many, including the Select Board, which appointed a new financial director and town clerk. The Swampscott Waste Advisory Committee also presented the board with its ongoing plans to review the town’s trash needs, as the contract with Republic Services ends July 1.
The School Committee also met, discussing updates at the middle school and high school, as well as a social media detox program.
At the schools, the swim team competed against Peabody Veterans Memorial, and Coach Ashley Vieira said her athletes continue to “show up and work hard.” Swampscott’s boys basketball team also extended its undefeated season with a 63–55 road win over Lynn Tech on Monday.
The Recreation Department launched its program at Bradford Ski Area, where more than 100 Swampscott Middle School students hit the slopes. The department’s Dungeons & Dragons nights also began Thursday.
