Superintendent Jason Calichman has announced a two-hour delay to Friday’s school opening throughout the district due to the “timing of the snow and the likelihood of icy conditions in the morning.”

According to Windy, which uses global, high-resolution regional, and European weather models, Swampscott is expected to receive approximately 8.14 inches of snow between 10 p.m. Thursday and 4 p.m. Friday.

“As always, I have been in close contact with the DPW and our facilities director while making this decision,” Calichman wrote. “We are sending this message now to give families. chance to plan accordingly for tomorrow morning.”

Calichman encouraged families to carpool if possible “and be safe.”

At the time of writing there is not a parking ban throughout the town.
