Democrats are invited to convene at the Senior Center on Wednesday, March 11, at 7 p.m. to elect 11 delegates and four alternates to represent Swampscott at the 2026 Massachusetts State Democratic Convention.
The 2026 convention will be held in person at the DCU Center in Worcester on Friday, May 29, and Saturday, May 30. Registered and pre-registered Democrats in Swampscott who will be at least 16 years old by February 19 may vote and be elected as delegates or alternates at the caucus. At the 2026 state convention, delegates will vote on Democratic candidates for statewide office and determine who qualifies for the September primary ballot.
The offices up for nomination are:
- The United States Senate, currently held by Sen. Ed Markey
- Governor, currently held by Gov. Maura Healey
- Lieutenant Governor, currently held by Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll
- Attorney General, currently held by Attorney Gen. Andrea Campbell
- Secretary of the Commonwealth, currently held by Secretary William Galvin
- State Treasurer, currently held by Treasurer Deborah Goldberg
- State Auditor, currently held by Auditor Diana DiZoglio
To appear on the September Democratic primary ballot, a candidate must earn at least 15% of the delegate vote at the Convention. A candidate earning a majority of the delegate votes – or 50% plus one – receives the party’s endorsement. Even if one candidate “wins” the convention, other candidates can still appear on the Democratic primary ballot if they meet the 15% threshold.
Convention voting is conducted by roll call. All voting for contested races will happen on Saturday, May 30.
Caucus votes, however, do not bind delegates to vote for a specific candidate come the election.
The delegate fee is $85, and a reduced fee is available for students, seniors and people with disabilities.
Individuals with disabilities, people of color, veterans, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and those between the ages of 16 and 35 who are not elected as delegates or alternates on Wednesday, March 11, are encouraged to apply to be add-on delegates by visiting massdems.org/caucus-and-convention.
