Town Seeks Replacement for Assistant Town Accountant

Swampscott’s assistant town accountant position has reopened after one week, and the town is again searching for qualified candidates to fill the role.

“We had an individual who we had anticipated joining us, she ended up going back to her previous employer,” said Town Administrator Nick Connors at Wednesday’s Select Board meeting.

Connors said on Wednesday that the interview process has been picked back up as the town searches for a replacement for Kylie Gates, whose hiring was announced last month.

“We’re looking forward to getting someone on board,” said Connors.

The town is seeking a candidate with at least two years of professional experience in municipal accounting or a related field, according to the job posting.

“The assistant town accountant performs a variety of professional accounting and administrative duties in support of the finance director to ensure the proper recording, maintenance, and reporting of the town’s financial records in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles,” reads the position summary. “This position plays a key role in supporting the integrity and transparency of the Town’s financial operations.”

Responsibilities for the role include maintaining records, assisting in the preparation of financial reports, reviewing warrants and collaborating with town departments to resolve accounting issues.
