Five Swampscott residents will take part in the 2025 Jimmy Fund Walk, presented by Hyundai, on Sunday.
Beth Shribman, Peter Shribman, Leila Cooper, Sharon Tripolsky, and Linda Wood will join the annual event on Sunday, October 5. They aim to raise funds supporting both adult and pediatric cancer care and research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. This year’s Jimmy Fund Walk hopes to raise $9.5 million.
“For 36 years, the Jimmy Fund Walk has been a cornerstone of support for lifesaving cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber,” said Caitlin Fink, vice president of The Jimmy Fund. “Every participant contributes directly to advancing lifesaving research and critically important cancer care. Walk Day is more than just an event—it’s a celebration of hope and the shared commitment of the Jimmy Fund community.”
Founded in 1948, the Jimmy Fund directly supports Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Since then, millions have contributed to saving lives and easing the burden of cancer for patients and families worldwide. The Jimmy Fund is the official charity partner of the Boston Red Sox, the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association, the Pan-Mass Challenge, and the Variety Children’s Charity of New England.
The Jimmy Fund Walk follows the Boston Marathon route, offering four distance options: a 5K from Dana-Farber’s Longwood Medical Campus, a 10K from Newton, a half marathon from Wellesley, and a full marathon from Hopkinton. Participants may also choose to walk virtually.
Photos of Walk Heroes will be displayed along the course to inspire participants. All routes end at the Jimmy Fund Walk finish line, powered by Schneider Electric, at Boston Common near the corner of Charles and Beacon Streets.
The finish line celebration will feature food, entertainment, and a festive atmosphere.
Swampscott resident Beth Shribman has walked alongside Leila Cooper for 19 years. She was inspired to join after seeing a billboard featuring a child with cancer.
“I said ‘I can do that,’” Shribman said. “I can walk 26 miles and raise money.”
Over the past few years, Shribman has raised $140,000. This year alone, her team of 66 walkers — Team JJ — has already raised $150,000.
“I do it because others can’t,” Shribman said. “The point is to raise the money for the Jimmy Fund and research.”
