Swampscott Election Committee Launches Survey to Boost Local Voter Turnout

The Town Election Review Committee is surveying residents about voting habits, barriers to participation, and strategies to improve turnout and engagement in local issues.

The committee is seeking public input on ways to increase voter turnout in local elections. In Swampscott’s April town election, just over 16% of registered voters cast ballots.

The committee held its first meeting on January 22, 2025 and agreed to meet twice monthly through October.

Over the past eight months, the committee has explored various strategies to increase civic engagement and voter participation. Ideas have included social media outreach, student volunteers on election day, robocalls, use of the town newsletter, transportation for senior center members, and expanding early voting days.

When the committee completes its work this fall, it will present its recommendations to the Select Board and Town Meeting.

The survey can be completed here. It will remain open from Wednesday, October 1, through Wednesday, October 15.

The survey includes questions about voting habits and engagement in presidential, state, and local elections, as well as influences on voter behavior and ideas for improving turnout in Swampscott.
