Swampscott High School Varsity Boys Basketball Coach Jason Knowles announced he is stepping down from the role after seven years. Knowles made the announcement after Swampscott was eliminated from the Division 3 state tournament on a last second shot Tuesday.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to lead this team for the past seven seasons,” Knowles said.

It is not immediately clear why Knowles is stepping down. The Swampscott Tides reached out to Athletic Director Kelly Wolff for comment when the announcement was made after business hours on Tuesday.

Knowles serves as the assistant principal at the Swampscott Middle School. He was previously an assistant principal at Hadley Elementary School and taught in the school district for 18 years.

He earned a bachelor’s of science in physical education from Springfield College and a masters degree in education administration from American International College.

Knowles said he will look back on the season fondly after Tuesday’s loss. The boys team went 17-5 and received the fourth seed position in the playoffs.
