Photos of the Week: February 21-27

Swampscott’s week was really – yet again – focused around snow. The town saw over 17 inches of it too. Power was out for some residents, students got an extra two days of break, and almost everyone was forced to stay inside.

Justin Perry, of North Shore Weather Service, told the Swampscott Tides that he anticipated a colder, snowier-than-average season but not to this extent.

“It’s definitely been a colder winter,” said Perry.

S.U.R.E. Diversity’s Black History Month event should be rescheduled for next week, the Swampscott Tides is told. The SOCA and SOCA Jr. clubs, however, have completed their mural at the Swampscott Middle School.

The Swampscott Recreation Department’s creative writing club did get rescheduled to Wednesday this week, making four local children officially published authors.

For sports, the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) tournament brackets were released. And while the girls basketball team unfortunately did not make it to the next round, the boys will play on Saturday. Wrestling is also set to compete in the Massachusetts All-State Meet March 1 and 2.
