The Swampscott Education Foundation is hosting a Family Fun Fest on Sunday, September 7 from 3 to 6 p.m. in Linscott Park.
“We’re just trying to build community, raise some funds, raise awareness, get families involved,” Superintendent Jason Calichman said.
The event will feature a bounce house, DJ dance party, face painting, kids’ yoga, sports games and more.
Admission is $5 per person or $15 per family. All proceeds will directly benefit the Swampscott Education Foundation.
“I’m so happy that it’s coming back,” School Committee Vice Chair Glenn Paster said. “I think it’s great.”
School Committee Chair Amy O’Connor noted that while many volunteers support the schools, events like Family Fun Fest give “the rest of the community a chance to get involved.”
Family Fun Fest began as a series of socially distanced outdoor gatherings at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. It evolved to a festival on Fisherman’s Beach in 2022.
The Swampscott Education Foundation works to generate funding and foster community involvement to enhance education in the Swampscott Public Schools. The nonprofit supplements programs already funded at a basic level by public financing, and supports initiatives that receive no funding from traditional sources such as district budgets, state aid, or parent-teacher organizations.
“I do think people want to help, and parents want to see the schools being funded properly and are willing to do whatever it takes to help,” Calichman said.
