The week started with a motion to dismiss the eviction case against Lincoln’s Landing, and it ended with the case going on to the discovery phase.
At Thursday’s case management conference, Attorney Jennifer Capone called the eviction filing “reckless,” but Attorney Natalie Megaloudis said Thursday that resolving the parties’ competing claims over rent payments was not the purpose of the case management conference.
The weekend also saw Bent Water’s annual event and the final FIFA match.
In government, the trash pick-up launch is pushed back to the week of August 3. New recycling carts will be delivered the week of July 27, while households will continue using the town-issued 35-gallon black trash carts. Residents do not need to be present for the drop-off.
Police Chief Ruben Quesada recognized four newly sworn-in Swampscott police officers and two newly promoted lieutenants during Tuesday’s Select Board meeting. The Select Board voted to charge residents $160 annually for a second trash cart and $50 annually for an additional recycling cart. The cost of blue bags will not change.
Households that need an additional recycling or trash cart may lease one for the approved annual fees. Residents can fill out a request form at swampscottma.gov/trash.
Quesada also talked with the Select Board about parking citations and overall safety.
“To me, it’s not just parking. Parking coincides in my mind with safety,” said Select Board Vice Chair Danielle Leonard. “There’s a bigger piece here. Sure, we have an issue with people parking and getting tickets, but we have a bigger issue with safety.”
